Professor
Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences, Zweibrücken Campus, Molecular Immunology and Immunosensors
Prof. Dr. Bernd Bufe and his team are investigating the molecular mechanisms that enable the detection of bacteria. He is interested in the evolutionary developments that have given rise to the different functional properties of chemoreceptors and the lead to the development of broadly coordinated and highly specialized GPCRs.
Among other things, he concentrates on the analysis of chemosensory receptors from the olfactory, taste and immune systems. He compares the in vitro pharmacology of individual receptors and their gene variants with physiological reactions of native cells, sensory perception and behavior.
